48 Years of experience

I have spent the better part of my life focusing a camera lens while growing up as a photographer in my father’s studio and eventually becoming its owner.

My favorite photography quote is: “Don’t shoot what it looks like. Shoot what it feels like.” -David Alan Harvey

Awards, honors and recognition

Alan has had his photographs published in numerous magazines, books, and publications during the course of his career including, The Columbus Museum of Art publications, Peachpit Press Books, Woodworker’s Journal Magazine, OSU Development and Medical Center publications, Contemporary Art Matters art publications, The Complete New Router Book for Woodworkers, The Arnold Classic and Art at the Arnold, and many more digital and print publications.

A fun fact about me

In the summer of 2006 my wife Cathy & I bought an historic, three-story building where the studio is now located. The studio occupies the top 2 floors. The light in the camera rooms is beautiful! I am a hobbyist woodturner and mandolin player. My wife and I have four children and reside in Westerville.

What an excellent job you did at our Hilliard Taekwondo Academy's Photo Day this year. You kept things moving along as we alternated between group and individual photos. And every photo turned out terrific. You captured the perfect expression on every person's face ... a tough job with that many photos to take! Thank you!
