I always spend time quickly getting to know my subject by doing a pre-interview; it's a habit from my documentary/segment producing days. Apart from adventurous vs. reserved, I want to know what they like about my stuff; what they like about other photographers, etc. Once shooting, I like to try different things to see what resonates, as well as, if possible, get them involved in the creative process. If they aren't comfortable with that, no problem, I always have plenty of ideas as well as the intention of recreating something that I am a fan of... Perhaps something from another photographer, a movie, or a famous painting. But having studied multiple forms of art in college, I love to start with a form and then build upon it, making it our own. Bottom-line, my goal is to take the best picture of you that will ever be taken.
